Remember Lot’s Wife: A Lesson About Trusting God By Ismael Burciaga
Out of all the women mentioned in the Bible, Jesus told us to remember only one: Lot’s wife. In the Bible, He said, “Remember Lot’s wife!”. Why? Her story teaches us what happens when we don’t trust God’s plan. Lot’s wife lived in the city of Sodom, a wicked place full of people who ignored God. When God decided to destroy the city, He sent angels to rescue Lot and his family. The angels warned them, “Run for your lives! Don’t stop, and don’t look back!” It was a clear command to leave the past behind and move forward with God.
Lot’s family obeyed, but as fire and smoke rained down on Sodom, Lot’s wife turned around and looked back. She disobeyed God, and in that moment, she turned into a pillar of salt. Why did she look back? Maybe she missed her old life, her home, or her friends. The Bible doesn’t say, but her actions showed that her heart was still tied to Sodom. Lot and his daughters kept going and were safe, but Lot’s wife was left behind, frozen in time as a reminder of the cost of disobedience.
Jesus said to remember Lot’s wife because her story is a warning for us. When God calls us to move forward, He wants our full trust and obedience. If we hold on to the past or cling to things that keep us from Him, we can miss the blessings He has ahead. Lot’s wife teaches us that trusting God means letting go of what’s behind and focusing on His plan for the future.
