Moses and the Sea That Stood Still By Ismael Burciaga
When Moses led Israel out of Egypt, the people felt the thrill of freedom for the first time. Yet as they traveled, God guided them toward an unexpected place. Instead of a clear road forward, they soon found themselves standing before the Red Sea, with mountains on each side and Pharaoh’s army racing toward them from behind. Fear rose quickly. Many wondered why God would bring them here only to be trapped.
Moses stood firm. He reminded the people that God had not forgotten them. The Lord told Moses to lift his staff over the sea and step forward in faith. As Moses obeyed, the impossible happened. The waters rose and split apart, forming towering walls of water and a dry path stretching across the sea floor. Israel walked through safely, step by step, surrounded by God’s power.
When the Egyptians pursued, God commanded Moses once more to stretch out his hand. The waters returned to their place, closing over the enemy, and not one of them survived. Israel stood on the far shore, free at last, and lifted their voices in praise. What looked like a dead end became the doorway to deliverance.
