Jesus, his mother and the disciples of Jesus were attending a wedding in Cana in Galilee. While at the wedding, the hosts ran out of wine for the guests. Jesus’ mother went to Jesus and told him the situation.
Jesus looked at her and asked, “Dear woman, why do you involve me? My time has not yet come.” However, Mary didn’t listen to him and instead turned to the servants of the hosts and told them to do what Jesus told them to do.
Jesus turned to the servants and told them to fill the stone water jars that are used for ceremonial washing with water. The servants obeyed. Following Jesus’ further instructions, they took the jars to the master of the banquet. The master tasted the water that had been turned into wine and raved about the quality of the wine. It was customary at that time for the cheaper wine to be saved until the end. However, the master spoke of how they had truly saved the finest wine for the end.
This was the first miracle that Jesus performed at Cana of Galilee.
