When Lust Took Hold of Their Hearts By Ismael Burciaga

The Lord gave Ezekiel a message that exposed the true condition of Israel’s heart. It was not a gentle illustration. It was a raw and honest picture of a people who had abandoned God through desire that ruled over them. He described two sisters who once belonged to Him, yet chose to give themselves to other nations. Their unfaithfulness was not accidental. It was fueled by lust, craving, and choices that pulled them farther from the covenant they had promised to keep.

The younger sister remembered the days of her youth in Egypt. She remembered the men she slept with, the men she had flings with, and the intense desire that drove those encounters. Scripture says she lusted after men whose bodies were compared to donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. God used these comparisons to make their spiritual condition unmistakably clear. What she longed for was not love. It was lust so consuming that it became her master. The lewdness of her past called to her, and she answered it without hesitation.

Through this story, God revealed that Israel’s idolatry was not simply bowing to stone or wood. It was a deep inner corruption driven by desire. They chased after the nations around them with the same intensity the sister once chased after the men she slept with in Egypt. Their lust was spiritual and physical. It shaped their choices. It hardened their hearts. It replaced devotion with craving.

Yet even in this severe and graphic warning, God’s purpose was restoration. The shocking language was a final attempt to break through their numbness. If they could see how far they had fallen, they could still return. The God who confronted their lust was the same God who continued to call them back to Himself.
