The Man Who Was Impaled on His Own Pole By Ismael Burciaga

Haman was a powerful man in the Persian Empire, second only to King Xerxes. But with all his power came pride. When a Jewish man named Mordecai refused to bow down to him, Haman’s anger turned to hatred. He decided not only to destroy Mordecai, but all the Jews in the empire.

Queen Esther, who was secretly Jewish, had been chosen by King Xerxes to be his queen because of her beauty and grace. Yet beneath her royal crown was a woman of great courage and faith. When she learned of Haman’s plan, she risked her life by going before the king without being summoned to plead for her people.

During a banquet, Esther exposed Haman’s plot and revealed that she herself was among those he wanted killed. The king, furious at Haman’s deceit, ordered his death. Soldiers seized him, and the very pole he had built to execute Mordecai was used against him. Haman was impaled upon it, his body lifted high for all to see.

His downfall was brutal but just, showing that those who plot evil often fall into their own traps. Esther’s bravery, on the other hand, saved her people and changed the course of history.
