Living Ready for His Return

"So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

Matthew 24:44

Life moves quickly, and often without warning, which is why Jesus called His followers to live awake. His words in Matthew 24 carry a weight that stretches far beyond the moment He first spoke them. They remind every believer that time is fragile and eternity is certain. The call to stay awake is not rooted in fear but in readiness, a posture that keeps the heart aligned with His purpose.

Jesus explained that no one knows the hour of His return. This truth invites daily dependence rather than speculation. Staying awake means walking closely with the One who understands every weakness and invites every burden to be brought boldly before Him. It is a life shaped by prayer, repentance, and a growing awareness that Christ’s return is not a distant idea but an approaching promise.

Jesus gave clear warnings about becoming distracted, careless, or absorbed by routine, much like the world in Noah’s time. While life carries ordinary responsibilities, the heart cannot drift into spiritual sleep. Those who remain attentive choose stewardship, obedience, and faithfulness even when the waiting feels long. They serve others, guard their character, and stay rooted in Scripture.

A prepared life is a devoted life. It watches, worships, and works with eternity in view. Christ calls His people to live each day as though He could return before the sun sets. This expectancy is not pressure; it is hope. It transforms how we pray, give, relate, and serve. To stay awake is to stay close to Him.
