Shaken but Still Called
"Keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me."
Acts 27:25
The storm did not surprise God. Though Paul had warned the crew, poor decisions led everyone into chaos. Waves crashed, hope faded, and seasoned sailors gave up. Yet in the middle of panic, heaven spoke. God did not explain the storm. He revealed His purpose. Paul would stand before Caesar. The ship might break, but the calling would not.
When the vessel shattered, 276 survivors drifted onto Malta, an unexpected island. Malta was not Rome. It was cold, unfamiliar, and inconvenient. Still, it became holy ground. While serving others and gathering firewood, Paul was bitten by a viper. The same hand that would later heal was first attacked. The crowd judged him, then worshiped him. Opinions shifted quickly, but Paul remained steady. He shook the snake into the fire and refused to let the venom settle.
What looked like delay became assignment. Paul prayed for Publius’ father, and healing flowed. Soon the entire island experienced ministry. The storm carried him to a place of impact he never planned. Provision followed obedience. When it was time to leave, the islanders supplied everything needed for the next leg of the journey.
God often uses shipwrecks to position purpose. The detour may feel like loss, but heaven sees placement. The bite may feel personal, but it can become powerful.
Today's Focus
Stop asking why the storm came. Ask how God wants to use this season for His purpose and someone else’s healing.
Pray
Lord,
Thank You that every storm is under Your sovereignty. Give strength to endure unexpected seasons and wisdom to see assignment in adversity. Help hearts shake off offense, fear, and accusation before they take root. Let every scar become a testimony of Your power. Amen.
