The God Who Goes Beyond
"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine."
Ephesians 3:20
Life with God has never been a story of barely enough. Scripture points again and again to a King who delights in doing more than expected, more than imagined, and more than deserved. His nature is abundance, and His ways overflow with generosity. When the world teaches limits, Heaven whispers increase.
This truth becomes clearer when remembering that believers are called to reflect the character of the King they follow. Just as He restores beyond the point of loss, multiplies beyond the point of scarcity, and strengthens beyond the point of weakness, so His people are invited to live with open hands. Generosity is not a performance. It is imitation. It is the family resemblance that shows up when hearts are shaped by His love.
Even the smallest act becomes significant when placed in the hands of the One who multiplies. A simple step of obedience can turn into a blessing that stretches far beyond view. Like the disciples who saw empty nets become overflowing boats, believers are reminded that participation matters. God supplies the increase, but obedience sets the stage. In this season, the invitation is to give the small seed and trust God with the multiplied harvest.
Today's Focus
Offer God the small part He asked for and trust Him to do the multiplied part only He can do.
Pray
Lord,
Thank You for being a God of more than enough. Shape my heart to reflect Your generosity. Teach me to give with joy, to obey without delay, and to trust that You can turn small offerings into great impact. Help me see opportunities to sow encouragement, resources, and kindness into the lives of others. Make my life a picture of Your abundance and let everything I give point back to Your goodness. Amen.
Notes
Introduction
- The church is in a “Watch God Work” season, preparing for an over and above offering.
- Foundational idea: In this world, we are like Jesus. Our generosity, joy, and peace are meant to mirror the King we serve.
- Kingdom culture always reflects the heart of the King. Therefore, our giving must echo God’s character.
Key Points / Exposition
1. God Is Over and Above
- Over and above is not an occasional divine activity. It is God’s unchanging nature.
- Ephesians 3:20 ↗ – He is able to do immeasurably more.
- Psalm 97:9 ↗ , Jeremiah 10:6 ↗ – He is exalted far above all.
- Scarcity belongs to earth. Overflow belongs to heaven.
- Because we are the King’s children, we imitate His exceeding generosity.
2. God Does Not Do Minimum. He Multiplies
- Minimums create mediums. God creates multiplication.
- Luke 5:4-7 ↗ – At Jesus’ word, empty nets became boat sinking abundance. Obedience triggered multiplication.
- Principle of sowing and reaping: what leaves your hand never leaves your life. It reenters multiplied.
- Miracles such as water to wine (John 2 ↗ ) showcase kingdom abundance, not mere survival.
3. God Turns Small into Significant
- Kingdom parables in Matthew 13:31-33 show mustard seed and yeast. Tiny inputs with massive outcomes.
- Our part is small acts of obedience. God’s part is significant impact.
- Personal testimony: relocating from Seattle to L A after a simple yes unlocked unforeseen influence.
4. God Graces Us with More Than Enough so We Can Give More Than Expected
- The Good Samaritan model shows that possessing excess empowers extravagant mercy.
- Modern example: Pasadena church with a 1.2 million dollar budget gave away 1.8 million dollars, including 46 cars, to fire affected families.
- Divine surplus is entrusted to believers so they can exceed expectations and reveal heaven’s generosity.
